About
The Consulate General of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in Melbourne was established on 21 June 2013 to serve the Sri Lankan diaspora and strengthen bilateral ties with Australia. The mission has consular jurisdiction over the states of Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, with an additional honorary consul in Adelaide. Core services include passport issuance, visa applications, dual citizenship processing, document attestation, and registration of births, deaths and marriages. Beyond consular work, the office facilitates trade and investment promotion in coordination with the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, highlighting opportunities across infrastructure, tourism, agriculture, apparel and knowledge services. It also engages the Sri Lankan expatriate community of more than 40,000 residents in Victoria through cultural, educational and outreach activities. The consulate reports to the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Canberra and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo.
