Export Development Canada (EDC) is a Crown corporation wholly owned by the Government of Canada, established in 1944 to support and develop Canada's export trade. EDC offers trade credit insurance, export financing, bonding products, equity investments, and international market expertise to Canadian exporters and investors abroad. The agency serves roughly 29,000 customers across 200 markets worldwide, with 21 regional offices in Canada and permanent representations in 21 cities across 15 foreign markets. EDC opened a Sydney representation to help Canadian companies sell into and invest in Australia, complementing its Asia-Pacific financing branch in Singapore. The Sydney team connects Australian and Canadian companies and facilitates bilateral business introductions, providing financing to Australian companies and project owners doing business with Canadian companies or their affiliates. Australia is Canada's largest destination for Canadian direct investment in Asia-Pacific and a top source of FDI into Canada. EDC's mandate is set by Canada's Export Development Act to respond to international business opportunities and strengthen Canadian competitiveness globally.
