About
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is the UK government department for economic growth, formed in February 2023 by merging the former Department for International Trade with parts of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. In Australia, DBT operates from British Consulates General in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, with the Sydney post serving as the regional hub for trade and investment activity. The team helps UK exporters succeed in the Australian market and supports Australian companies looking to invest, scale, or set up operations in the UK. Services include export guidance, market intelligence, introductions to UK partners and investors, advice on regulated product licensing, and information on UK Export Finance. DBT also leverages the UK-Australia Free Trade Agreement, which entered into force in May 2023, to lower barriers for businesses on both sides. Sector specialists cover priority areas including financial services, fintech, clean energy, life sciences, defence, and advanced manufacturing. Globally DBT has roughly 6,500 staff and is headquartered at the Old Admiralty Building in London.
