British High Commission in Wellington
UK's diplomatic mission in New Zealand advancing trade, investment and bilateral ties
The British High Commission in Wellington is the UK's chief diplomatic mission in New Zealand, supporting bilateral trade, investment and consular services across NZ and several Pacific territories.
About
The British High Commission in Wellington is the United Kingdom's chief diplomatic mission to New Zealand, with a supporting office in Auckland. Established in 1939 with the appointment of Sir Harry Fagg Batterbee as the inaugural High Commissioner, it represents the UK government on all aspects of bilateral relations. Its remit covers political relations, defence and security cooperation, public diplomacy, and building Britain's prosperity through increased trade and investment in open markets. The High Commission's commercial team supports UK businesses entering or scaling in New Zealand and helps Kiwi investors connect with opportunities in the UK, complementing the work of the Department for Business and Trade. It also delivers consular assistance to British nationals across New Zealand, the Cook Islands, Niue, Tokelau, Pitcairn Island, Tonga and Samoa, handling over 3,000 enquiries each year. The mission sits within the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) network.
Why Work With Us
For UK companies, the High Commission's in-market trade team offers introductions, market intelligence and advocacy to support entry into New Zealand; for NZ firms, it is a gateway to UK investment and partnership opportunities.
